Group D

Group D was discovered in 2000.  Its location was recorded using a GPS and a sketch map was produced using tapes and a compass.  In 2001, the Group was more formally recorded, using a Topcon total station.  Additionally, Sacbe 3, which links Groups D and A, was mapped.  Group D differs from Groups A and B in that it is a relatively small group in area, and contains relatively smaller structures than the other two groups.  The constructions in Group D are larger than those found in the surrounding residential zone, however.

Above is Structure N2W7-2, a 5.5m tall range structure located in Group D.  It would have had an excellent view down Sacbe 3.  Structure N2W7-3 (below left) was the tallest structure in the Group at approximately 7m in height.  Here is the view today from Str. N2W7-3 towards Group A (note the "Castillo" in the background).

Structure N2W7-3 also affords a good view of the surrounding structures.  Below is Structure N2W7-4 as seen from above.

Group D also has several Postclassic shrines located on its earlier Classic constructions.  Structure N2W7-13 (below) has three shrines on its surface.

Group D also contained a chultun - a constructed underground water capture and storage system.  Here is the opening to the chultun.  This is the first chultun located at Yo'okop, a site which has only one water source.
