Group C and Sacbe 2

 

In 2002, Group C and Sacbe 2 were documented for the first time by Chris Lloyd and two local assistants, who used a GPS and compass to construct the first rendering of this part of the site.  The 2002 report contains detailed information on his observations and hypotheses.  In 2003, we would like to more fully record this portion of the site using our total station transit. 

 

Group C consists of a single mound approximately 14m in height that was built on a small acropolis at the northern end of Sacbe 2.  Below are two photographs of the summit of this mound.

 

 

Sacbe 2 contains an unusual vaulted subterranean passage.  Below are several photographs of this passage.  At left (below) is the passage entrance under the raised roadway (look under the man's feet).  At right (below) is a view of the vault and capstones covering the passage.
