Our 2002 Crew
Below is Reginald Wilson, who first described Yo'okop (aka Okop) in the 1970s. His sketch maps, photographs, information, and continuing comments have assisted us greatly in our research.

As in previous seasons, we hired a new set of local crew members each week from the ejido in which we work and live (saban), as well as additional lab assistants and masons. We were joined by seven archaeology students (annie, ben, chris, Maya, sue, tara, and Veronica) and cultural anthropologist Sandra bever and her student manuel. Epigraphers Linnea Wren and travis nygard also continue to study the site's monuments.
here is our 2002 gringo crew:

Chris, annie, and tara profiling a wall and Justine and Dave mapping (in the rain)

Linnea and Travis Documenting Yo'okop's Epigraphic Record

chris and ben profiling and Maya next to "her" road

Ben announces the lunch hour and sue and justine screen

Jose and Juan continue excavating and Maya takes notes

A crew of secundaria (high school) students washed and marked every artifact collected. Artifacts (mainly ceramic sherds) were marked with the Operation number, Level, and lot in which they were located.
Here are our 2002 local crew members:
(Click here to see complete list of names)
This is the Warlord (in chetumal), our best field
vehicle. The Warlord is a handsome 1973 Chevy 3/4 ton truck - an amazing
vehicle that never lets us down. Justine loves the Warlord and continues to drive him to class
on occasion. He'll be returning to the field with us next year.
Voline (1986 Ford Econoline) is our second field vehicle, who joined us for the first time in 2001. that year, She managed to consume 250% of her purchase cost in repairs. In 2002, she repeated the feat.

Our other crew member, Ek Be (below) found us in 2001 when she was about two months old. She was lost on the road between Saban and the site. Her hobbies in the field include digging and sliding down mounds. she returned to help us in 2002, although she complained a lot about the heat. Ek Be spends the remainder of her year in eureka, California with Dave and Justine.
