Things to note during CR's Spring 2012 semester:
- Two Monday Holidays: Jan 16 (MLK) and Feb 20 (Washington/Presidents Day)
- The first day of classes is a Tuesday (Jan 17).
- One Friday "off": Feb 17 -- No classes but CR offices and LRC will be OPEN
(This is good to be aware of because students can still get services that day, and can take tests in the ASC,
for instance.)
-- N.B.: This Friday with no classes is followed by the Monday Holiday on Feb. 20.
- This year is a Leap Year, so we have a February 29, 2012.
- Daylight Saving Time begins
on Sunday, March 11 -- Spring Forward
- Pi Day is March 14!
(Tami's Pi Page
has resources and activities you can do with your students to celebrate Pi)
- Spring Break is the week of March 12-17 (same as HSU's Spring Break).
[NOTE: The LRC is open during Spring Break but with reduced hours -- probably 8am to 5pm that week.]
- The Doris Niles Humboldt County Science Fair
happens during Spring Break at HSU, and volunteers are always needed! Round up some of your students (and yourself)
for good educational experience -- especially Math 15 students; offer Extra Credit
- Friday, March 30th is the very last day students can drop a class.
- APRIL is Math Awareness Month:
The theme for 2012 is Mathematics, Statistics, and the Data Deluge!
- Humboldt Math Festival
is on Saturday, April 28 at the Bayshore Mall
- Friday, May 4 is the MSE End-of-the-year BBQ at the Eureka campus --
if you have mid-day classes in the PS Bldg, the BBQ smells will be distracting -- now you've been warned.
(See photos from 2007's BBQ.)
- Finals Week is the week of May 7-12 (same as HSU's Finals Week).
- CR Commencement at the Eureka campus is Saturday, May 12
(same day as HSU's Commencement).
- . . . and . . . now in its Seventh Season . . .
"HomeWork Hotline,"
a live, call-in TV show on Math and Science, airs Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:30-5pm on KEET-TV Channel 13
-- Spring air dates are from 1/10/12 to 5/24/12.
