IMPORTANT:
  1. This is an OLDER edition – the 6th edition has been out a few years, and in fact, the 7th edition has just been released (but we are going to keep using the 5th edition).

  2. This is the “Early Transcendentals” version – there are many others that are very similar looking, so be careful. (You can see LOTS of them here: http://tinyurl.com/CengageStewart)

  3. There are three main options for you to get yourself a copy of this textbook:
    1. You can check one out of the CR library. (more information below).
    2. You might buy one yourself online or in a used bookstore (since it is the older edition, it should be cheaper and may be easier to find than a brand new textbook).
    3. You might be able to get one at the CR bookstore (there aren’t many)
NOTE: IF YOU GET ONE YOURSELF:
  • Make sure to get: “Calculus: Early Transcendentals, 5th Edition
  • Be very careful to get the FIFTH edition
  • Make sure it says “Early Transcendentals” in the title
  • The title should just say “Calculus” – NOT “Single Variable Calculus” and NOT “Multivariable Calculus”
IF YOU WANT ONE FROM THE CR LIBRARY:
  • Go the the CR Library (the LRC) to CHECK OUT your book.
    • Bring your Student ID card (or at least your ID number and photo ID).
    • Go to the check-out counter to ask for the calculus textbook. They are able to look up the class list to see who is registered in the class. -- they will only check these books out to people on the calculus lists.
    • You only need to check it out ONCE for the entire semester.
    • You need to return it at the end of the semester or you will be charged for it ($50).
    • If you take Calculus again in a following semester, you can check out a textbook again for THAT semester.
    • If, for any reason, you end up dropping this class before the semester is over, PLEASE return your book to the library right away.
    • NOTE: Most of the texts include a couple CD-ROMs -- so you might check that you get one that has them. After they run out of books with CD-ROMs the remaining books will be checked out without the CD-ROMs.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I look forward to meeting you all January 19th!
