Connecting to the MSEMac Server from a Windows Client

This will guide you through the process of downloading and installing WinSCP, a windows program that will allow you to transfer files to and from your MSEmac account (school account) from your home computer.

  1. First, you need to download the WinSCP program. The download page is located at:

    The specific download you need is entitled Installation Package on the download page. It is probably easiest to download the Installation Package to your Desktop. You can download the Installation Package directly with the following link.

  2. When the download is complete, double-click the Installation Package to begin the installation. Instructions for installation can be found at the following link:

    However, in most cases, simply clicking the defaults and selecting the Next button will suffice at each step.

  3. When the installation completes, restart your computer if instructed to do so.
  4. Run the program. A login screen will appear that looks like the one in the following image.

    You will need to fill in the following information:

    In most cases, you can ignore everything else in this window. The defaults should be good to go: Port number is 22 and the private key file can be left blank. For the Protocol, select SFTP as shown in the image above.

  5. Once you've completed the information on the login screen, click the Login. Depending on your selection at installation, you will get a Norton Commander Interface or an Explorer-like Interface.
  6. You can now drag-and-drop files to and from your home computer to your account on the MSEMac Server at school.
